What does the new Machinery Regulation, effective 14 January 2027, mean for manufacturers?

The EU's new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 replaces Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This regulation, which entered into force in July 2023, brings fundamental changes for manufacturers and CE certification processes.

Main Changes

Expanded Scope

Digital Declaration of Conformity

The EU Declaration of Conformity can now be provided in digital format, accessible via QR code or URL, simplifying technical file management and speeding up document updates.

Third-Party Obligation for High-Risk Machinery

The new regulation makes Notified Body examination mandatory for high-risk machinery categories listed in Annex I. Self-certification is no longer possible for manufacturers in this category.
